There was a time when I believed that feeling tired all the time was simply part of getting older.
As I moved through perimenopause and menopause, my energy began to change. Some days I felt vibrant and motivated. Other days I felt as though I was moving through life with a heavier step.
Like many women, I searched for the one thing that would magically restore my energy.
What I've discovered instead is that energy is less like a light switch and more like a garden. It grows through many small acts of care, repeated day after day.
These are some of the things that have helped me cultivate more energy, vitality, and well-being during this season of life.
The Little Ritual That Starts My Day
As I've grown older, I've come to appreciate the small rituals that anchor my day.
One of them is my morning coffee.

A few months ago, I brought home a Lavazza espresso machine. Each morning I froth soy milk, add a few drops of stevia, and sometimes a sprinkle of cardamom. The aroma fills the kitchen, and for a few quiet moments, life slows down.
In the afternoon, I often enjoy a decaf cappuccino simply because I love the experience. It feels luxurious in the simplest way.
It reminds me that energy is not only something we measure in steps, supplements, or calories.
Sometimes energy begins with pleasure.
Sometimes it begins with creating a moment we look forward to.
My morning coffee has become one of those moments.
Nourishing My Body with Protein
One of the most important changes I've made has been paying closer attention to protein.
For many years I focused on eating healthy foods, but I wasn't always getting enough protein to truly support my body.
These days my breakfast often includes overnight oats, protein powder, chia seeds, and berries. It keeps me feeling satisfied and provides a much steadier foundation for the day ahead.
I've also discovered a simple protein treat that feels more like dessert than health food.
I mix my favorite protein powder Chocolate Milkshake with a little water, stir in 0% Greek yogurt, and top it with blueberries.
The result is creamy, satisfying, and surprisingly indulgent.
In fact, my partner—who normally doesn't enjoy protein powders or health-food substitutes—took one bite and asked if the yogurt was actually whipped cream.
That made me laugh.
What I love most is that it helps satisfy my sweet cravings while also giving my body the protein it needs. Instead of feeling like I'm denying myself something, it feels like I'm treating myself to something nourishing.
I've learned that the habits that last are rarely the ones built on restriction.
They're the ones that feel supportive, satisfying, and kind.
Listening to What My Body Was Trying to Tell Me
For years I searched for answers outside of myself.
The older I become, the more I realize that wisdom often arrives through paying attention.
I've used Persona vitamins for many years. At one point I stopped taking them for a while, assuming they probably weren't making much difference.
But my body told a different story.
My energy felt lower. My sense of vitality wasn't quite the same. I found myself feeling less supported.
When I returned to my routine, I noticed the difference.
It wasn't dramatic. It wasn't overnight.
It was simply the gentle feeling that my body had what it needed.
I've also noticed that when I consistently take care of myself—through supplements, nutrition, movement, and rest—my weight tends to feel more stable and less prone to fluctuations.
Sometimes wellness isn't about finding the next miracle.
Sometimes it's about noticing what quietly helps and honoring it.
The Medicine of Ordinary Steps
There was a time when I believed health had to be complicated.
A special diet.
A perfect workout plan.
A dramatic transformation.
What has helped me most has been something far simpler.
Walking.
Day after day, step after step.
I wear a smartwatch that tracks my daily movement, steps, calories burned, sleep, and activity levels. Watching those numbers add up throughout the day motivates me far more than any intense exercise program ever has.
What matters even more is how I feel when I return home.
Clearer.
Lighter.
More connected to myself.
There is a wisdom in walking.
The body moves.
The mind settles.
Life becomes a little easier to carry.
Over the past several months, those ordinary steps have become part of an extraordinary journey—one that has helped me lose weight, support my health, and feel more at home in my own body.
Creating Space for Rest
No matter how well I eat or how many steps I take, I eventually come back to the same truth:
Rest matters.
Sleep is not a luxury.
Rest is not laziness.
Rest is part of the rhythm of being human.
Some evenings I make a cup of herbal tea.
Some evenings I read a few pages of a book.
Some evenings I simply sit quietly and allow the day to settle.
I've learned that energy isn't only created through doing more.
Sometimes it's restored through allowing ourselves to do less.
A Gentler Relationship with Myself
Perhaps the greatest lesson menopause has taught me is self-compassion.
For a long time I judged myself for not having the same energy I had in my twenties or thirties.
Now I see things differently.
My body is not failing me.
It is changing.
It is asking for different forms of support.
Different rhythms.
Different expectations.
Different kinds of kindness.
The more gently I treat myself, the more energy I seem to have available for the things that truly matter.
Final Thoughts
There wasn't one magic solution that transformed my energy overnight.
Instead, it has been a collection of small choices:
Nourishing food
Protein
Helpful supplements
Daily walks
Rest
Small rituals
Self-compassion
None of them are dramatic.
Yet together, they have made a meaningful difference.
If you're navigating menopause and wondering why your energy feels different than it once did, know that you're not alone.
This season may ask us to listen more closely to our bodies.
To slow down.
To pay attention.
To care for ourselves with greater tenderness.
And perhaps, in doing so, we discover a different kind of vitality—one rooted not in pushing harder, but in living more wisely.
